This is my first 1911 and I can't say how pleased I am to own such a good-looking, well-functioning piece of history. I wanted to commemorate 100 years of service by obtaining this pistol at a great price here ad Buds Police Supply. I figured after 100 years of refinement, it must be good. After reading all of the horror stories out there, I started getting nervous. I was thinking that I would take my brand new thousand-dollar 1911 out of the box only to find it failure to feed every magazine and have the finish come off right away. Not the case at all.
Everyone talked about how picky these 1911's are with ammo. I bought 4 different types of ammo and even ran my home defense (Hydroshock) hallow points through it with only one FTF. This gun gobbled them up.
The weight and length of this pistol eliminates the kick you would expect from a .45 pistol. The grip was small enough for my petite girlfriend, yet still comfortable in my large mittens. I will have to get use to a two-hand grip. The serrations on the trigger made the very tip of my finger raw, but I can see the field befits. I only wish this gun had a checkered front strap. I have a feeling I will be going to a Pachmayr full-wraparound very soon.
I don't miss the ambi-saftey available on the other loaded models. Seems like it wouldn't be practical. I do like the look of the front and rear slide serrations. Brakes up the polish nicely.
This pistol is very accurate. The trigger is light and crisp. I was able to drop all seven rounds in a ragged quarter-sized hole just left of the bulls eye at 15 feet.
The finish is much more durable than you would expect; however, I'm still too afraid to use the plastic Springfield holster too often. Fits nicely in my existing tactical-thigh holster.
If you're like me and you're only want one mid-range 1911 but don't want the hassle of doing all of the upgrades yourself, then this is the pistol for you. However, I have a feeling that I have been bitten by the bug. I already have plans of obtaining a more-practical, lightweight version with a tactical rail.
You will be happy you made this purchase.
